ask local farmers first. 🌽🍅🍏🍠🍊

today we will

ask local farmers first.
WHY Local farmers are losing business. Their produce is being wasted. We will support local famers and reduce waste by asking local farmers for produce first.

HOW Before shopping stores or big sites, let's ask local farmers if they have a protocol for selling produce to individuals right now. Some resources for getting in touch:
Farm Aid
Local Harvest
Perdue University

From subscriber Melanie W:
According to the CDC, you should wet your hands,  then turn the water off so as to conserve water,  scrub your hands with soap for 20 seconds, and then turn the water back on to rinse.  I've seen other things other places,  but the CDC is a pretty good authority,  and says this method is best because studies have not shown significant germ- transfer from hands to the faucet knobs.

Thanks, Melanie. A great reminder to turn off the faucet while scrubbing if we can remember!

From Subscriber Joni W:
Regarding water use, I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but I save any water used for cooking to use doing the dishes. For example, if I'm steaming or boiling something, rather than emptying the pot down the drain I keep that water to rinse dishes.

From Subscriber Jhal:
I save at least a gallon a day by keeping a dedicated pitcher by my sink and pouring used water from cooking such as steaming vegetables or boiling eggs, as well as the last rinse from handwashed items and coffeepot rinses. I pour it in my garden watering cans and use it to water my plants. Or I use it to pour in garbage disposal when running it.
