choose a bar of soap over body wash.

today we will

choose a bar of soap over body wash.
WHY About 2 billion bottles of body wash head to landfills in the US every year. Most are made of plastic. We will reduce our plastic waste by opting for bars of soap.

HOW When we're shopping for body wash, choose a bar of soap instead. Boom. Plastic crisis averted. The less packaging, the better. It's soap, after all.

Also, depending on the tool, it's often possible to rent from Home Depot or other collaborative platforms!

Today's letter is such a good tip!
My library loans out garden and home tools! pattersonlibrary.org
Many cities also have tool libraries that have an even larger selection than we do.
The library also loans out cake pans. Checking out your local library (and many systems allow patrons to use other libraries, too) can help save resources and money!

Georgia S.
Some libraries also have tool rental programs! The Toronto Public Library has a fantastic tool rental system.

Also check out tool libraries & repair cafes that are popping up around the world.

Also, check with your local library - many have started lending a variety of tools and equipment. From mine, I can borrow a pressure washer, a sewing machine, a telescope, and more.

Thanks for sharing, everyone!

borrow tools before we buy.👉🔧👈

today we will

borrow tools before we buy.
WHY Tools use energy & water to make and are heavy to move. This produces emissions. We will reduce emissions by borrowing tools before buying new ones.

HOW When we need a tool, we can ask a neighbor for one. If they don't have any (or there are no neighbors), ask a friend.

turn single-handle faucets to cold.

today we will

turn single-handle faucets to cold.
WHY Single-handle faucets use warm water if they're not turned all the way to cold. This uses heating energy. We will save heating energy by turning the handle to cold.

HOW When using single-handle faucets when we don't need warm water — brushing teeth, rinsing fruit, watering plants  — turn the handle all the way to cold. Aaall the way.

use sunlight. ☀

today we will

use sunlight.
WHY U.S. residential lighting uses about 145 billion kwh a year. That emits the same C02 as driving over 200 million miles. We will reduce our emissions by using sunlight.

HOW While the sun's up, let it light up rooms rather than lamps. Turn all or some lamps off. Open the blinds. Work closer to a window. Use sunlight. It'll be good for you!
