choose loose leaf tea.

today we will

choose loose leaf tea.
WHY Tea in bags mean more packaging, machinery running*, and chemicals. Not to mention more waste after use. We will reduce our impact by choosing loose leaf tea.
*to fill the bags

HOW When buying tea, choose loose leaf tea, in bulk if available. Put it in a reusable tea infuser or pot to brew. When ordering brewed tea, ask for loose leaf.

define sustainability.

today we will

define sustainability.
WHY It's easy to think sustainability focuses only on environmental issues, but it includes human rights issues too.

HOW Consider that nothing is sustainable if it does not meet equal living standards for all. If we advocate for sustainability, we advocate for human rights too.

TIP INSPIRATION

Given current events and tragic injustices, it seemed irresponsible to ignore the human rights issue of racism in America and beyond. Talking about anything else without addressing this first would be pointless, because, until this is addressed, nothing we do in this climate of inequality will ever really be sustainable, in the truest sense of the word.

use less toothpaste.

today we will

use less toothpaste.
WHY We only need a pea-size amount toothpaste to brush. Using more means buying more, more often. We will reduce production & packaging by using less toothpaste.

HOW When brushing our teeth, we only squeeze out a pea-size amount of toothpaste onto our toothbrush.
Subscriber Martha W: "While I was in Japan I saw older Japanese women wash their hands in the bathroom and then use the washcloth-looking cloth they had pulled from their purse. Then put the cloth back  in something like a baggie, back in their purse."

Thanks for the inspiration, Martha!

Microfiber LINK UPDATE

today we will

know about microfiber pollution.
Today's email, updated with correct links.
Apologies for any inconvenience.
WHY Every 13lbs of laundry that's full of athletic or other poly-based clothing adds about 700,000 plastic fibers to our oceans' food chain and, now, our drinking water

HOW Have 30 seconds? Look at this. Have 1 minute & 30 seconds? Watch this (it's kinda funny). Have 9 minutes? Read this. Share where you see fit.
